Big Little Truths
The sequel to Big Little Lies reunites the Pirriwee mothers ten years on, as their children are now teenagers and a charismatic new teacher turns out to be at the centre of an organised grooming and sexual exploitation ring. The novel handles domestic violence, cancer, addiction, and trauma with Moriarty's characteristic wit, but its central subject matter is dark and explicit.
Chapters to know about
A beloved teacher is gradually revealed to have groomed and sexually exploited teenage students; a teenager narrates her own abuse, and coercion using photographs is described at length.
The exploitation of minors by an authority figure is built slowly across the whole novel before being stated without flinching in the later chapters.
A severed human finger arrives by mail to the school principal; the object is described in enough detail to be disturbing.
